Irshalgad Trek

It is a good option for people who are looking for trekking near Mumbai/pune because of its convenient location. The pinnacle of Irshalgad which is visible from the Mumbai-Pune old highway has attracted a lot of trekkers. It is often draped in clouds and adds to the seclusion and charm of this place. Surrounded by greenery all around, this hill fort offers a splendid view of the adjacent peaks. Although the fort is hardly mentioned in history, it is a favorite among trekkers, history buffs, adventurers, and nature photographers as well. During the trek, you will also get a chance to explore the base village, Chowk-Irshalwadi.

Located in Western Ghats of Maharashtra, Irshalgad is a fortress situated 3,700 ft. above sea level in the Karjat region between Matheran and Panvel. ‘Irshal’ means a pinnacle and ‘gad’ means a fort. Irshalgad may have been under the Maratha rule when Shivaji Maharaj captured the regions of Kalyan and Bhiwandi up to Rairi in May 1666. Famous for its noticeable pinnacle, Irshalgad is the sister fort of Prabalgad fort. The nearest village is Irshalwadi. The villagers extend whole-hearted guidance and offer warm hospitality to all the tourists visiting this place. While the fort is not as massive as the other forts on the neighboring hills, it does add significance in terms of height.

Chowk-Irshalwadi. Irshalgad pinnacle is accessible by a moderate 2-3-hour trek for the 3.5-km distance. The ascent from the base village to the top of the fort is a zigzag path. Pace yourself on this path and enjoy matchless views over Morbe reservoir to your right. The trek to Irshalgad fort would be a wonderful experience for beginners. You can easily make your way up through a series of rock cuts. Do not forget to carry a water bottle, readymade food, and an additional pair of clothes, energy drinks, walking stick, torches, and a first-aid kit. Once you reach the top of this hill fort, the panoramic view of the cluster of forts around is sure to leave you spellbound. Make sure you don’t forget to capture these wonderful memories of Irshalgad night trek on camera. Start your descent back to the base village, after you finish exploring the fort.
