Harihar, also known as Harshgad is a beautiful trek located 60 kms away from Kasara. Harihar fort looks like rectangular in shape from base village and built on triangular prism of rock the edges of this stunning fort is absolutely vertical. Rock cut stair case leads you the fort.

  • There is a small temple of Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva on the plateau. A small pond is there in front of this temple. There is small caves on top of the fort accommodating 10-15 people easily. One of the vertical drops of the fort facing the Nirgudpada village is called ‘Scottish kada’, perhaps because it was climbed for the first time in November 1986 by Doug Scott, the legendary Himalayan mountaineer. It took him two days to climb the cliff which is 170 meters in height. The view from the top is excellent. After climbing these steps, we get up to the entrance door. The fort has got a tapering plateau with a raised level in the middle. There is a small temple of Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva on the plateau. A small pond is there in front of this temple. Water from this pond can be used for drinking. Making headway from here we come across a palace having two rooms in it. 10 to 12 persons can be accommodated in this palace.

  • Time taken: 4-5 hours, Altitude: 3,676 ft

  • Trek gradient: Moderate. Flat walk four about 15 minutes followed by gradual ascent for an hour. Steep ascent for the final climb to the fort. Return is all descent.

  • Water sources: Stream around 20 minutes from the starting point. Pond at the top. These are available only in monsoon.

Proceed in the direction of the Trimbak range. The trail moves away from the village towards the range crossing the paddy fields. You will notice that trail gradually climbs up after passing through the fields for 10 – 15 minutes. You

will reach a forest in 15 minutes. Continue on the trail. If you visit during monsoon, you’ll reach a stream in another 10 minutes. The bed of the stream is easily identifiable even in other seasons.
